"Shout out to the awesome Victoria Perrie, who was a guest speaker at our UVic Family Law class. To sum it up, here’s a comment from a student:

“The goal reconciliation then, is to find a way to honour both the First Nations and Canada at the same time. This in itself is an anti-colonial movement, and I learned a lot and found a lot of beauty in listening to Victoria discuss some of the issues that arise while trying to get there. Her points about the accessibility (and acceptance) of language has stuck with me through the remainder of the semester. I have made a conscious effort to use more “plain language” when discussing legal topics with those not in the profession, I have more thoughtfully considered how body language differs throughout cultures, I have paid more attention to the way oral tradition has affected the current legal system.

Victoria’s talk inspired the way I have approached my own legal practice. It changed the way I choose to show up for others, and changed the way I plan to practice the law.

Through her one talk she, without knowing, influenced someone in the next generation of lawyers, effectively influencing the future of law in a small way. I think that is pretty notable.”

We agree. All law students would benefit from your talk, Victoria. Way to be the change."
