Perrie Law is a legal practice focused on criminal defence, police misconduct, and wills and estates that is looking to expand their offerings to include family law and/or child protection. We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to join our practice based in Winnipeg who is interested in developing a practice in Nunavut. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the development of Perrie Law’s family law offerings in Nunavut. The role includes a mix of direct client representation, document drafting, and potential court appearances (in person and virtual), with the support of an experienced community-focused team.
Responsibilities:
Provide legal advice to clients
Conduct legal research as needed
Draft and review legal documents
Stay updated with continuing education, and changes in law and regulations that may affect clients’ interests
Maintain accurate and organized filing systems (CosmoLex)
Manage case load, inquiries and files in a prompt manner
Qualifications:
● Must be called or willing to be called to the Nunavut Bar
● Aware of or willingness to become aware of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and Inuit culture
● Strong writing and communication skills
● Excellent organizational and time management skills
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team
● Demonstrated ability to work independently without supervision
● Strong analytical and critical thinking skills
● Interest in northern legal issues, community development, and Indigenous cultures
● LLB, JD, or equivalent law degree
● Experience working with Indigenous communities is an asset
● Experience working with an interpreter and clients with limited access to English is an asset
● Experience working in remote or isolated communities and the ability to adapt to dynamic circumstances is an asset
● Prior experience in family law in any jurisdiction in Canada

● Compensation is based on a competitive 70/30 split model depending on experience and file origination
● Work hours are flexible

Perrie Law is currently seeking a full-time paralegal to work with us in our Winnipeg office. This position will support day-to-day tasks such as drafting documents, filing, communications, scheduling, document review, and other duties. Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated, highly organized and detail-oriented individual, who is dynamic in a changing environment and committed to providing culturally sensitive administrative and legal support to Indigenous clients.
Key Responsibilities:
· Preparing, drafting, and delivering various correspondence and documents
· Preparing and filing Land Titles documents, through the relevant land titles office or e-filing system;
· Tracking and managing deadlines for conditions, financing, inspections, title searches, and closing dates;
· Conducting title searches, utility searches, and any other required.
· Organizing and maintaining an electronic filing system, keeping track of client files in an organized manner.
· Opening, updating, organizing, maintaining, and closing legal files
· Transcribing notes and assisting with digital dictation and timekeeping
· Reviewing and revisions of format, spelling, and grammar on final documents
· Managing a calendar and scheduling lawyer’s appointments
· Exercising initiative and judgement in lawyer’s absence
· Performing basic research
· Handling of billing, drafting invoices and other accounting matters
· Providing additional administrative assistance and general office duties as required
Qualifications
· Completion of recognized Legal Assistant program or equivalent lived experience
· Familiarity with real estate conveyancing programs such as Unity, Teranet, etc.
· Comfortable with realtor and lender communications in a professional, timely manner.
· Strong numeracy skills for adjustments, trust accounting, and statement of adjustments preparation.
· Familiarity with Cosmolex and Google Workspace is an asset
· Understanding of legal terminology and processes
· Ability to adapt in a dynamic environment
· Excellent written communication skills
· Strong attention to detail and organization.
· Strong Analytical and critical thinking skills
· Exemplary ethics and professionalism

Salary: $55,000 per year + annual bonus
